The Local Region

Orman Dam also known as Belle Fourche Reservoir is located on Owl Creek about 8 miles east of Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Orman Dam was created in 1911 as a reservoir for agricultural use. The over 8,000-acre Reservoir with 58 miles of shoreline was the largest earthen dam of it’s time and was designated as a National Historic Engineering Landmark.

Today you can find the lake active with camping, fishing, and recrational activities.

Other Regional features

The Belle Fourche River winds through town, Red Water River is just outside of town, and various other creeks and streams welcome fishing and angling.

Western South Dakota provides some of the best and most plentiful public hunting access in the region.
